BASIC SOFT PASTEL
EQUIPMENT LIST
Pastels – A good basic set of SOFT PASTELS in
all colors. Not OIL pastels
Optional
that can be added later or as needed: Basic HARD pastels, and basic pastel
pencils.
Paper – There are many options for paper from
Bristol paper to watercolor paper, sanded paper and of course pastel paper. The
biggest concern to look for is the texture and the pattern of the texture of
the paper. Too much texture or pattern in the paper can make it difficult to
work on. I will go over this in class.
Workable Fixative – This allows you to
continue to add layers to your painting and differs from just fixative because
it has a bit of a tooth that the pastels can grab onto. Workable Fixative is
not necessary if working on sanded paper.
Other things you will need –
Paper stumps, cotton swabs, soft lead pencils
(2B – 4B), sand paper, masking tape, erasers (kneaded or white), paper towels,
old paint brushes soft and bristle (just be sure they are clean and don’t have
any oil residue in them).
A support for your paper - Drawing board, acrylic board, Masonite, or
any ridged, flat smooth board.
Optional – gloves, masks (if you have
breathing problem), color wheel, value scale
